چکیده

Status of this Memo This memo discusses implementation decisions for routing issues in the NSFNET, especially in the NSFNET Backbone. Of special concern is the restriction of routing information to advertize the best route as established by a policy decision. Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

Aggregation Support in the NSFNET Policy-Based Routing Database

This document describes plans for support of route aggregation, as specified in the descriptions of Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) [1] and the BGP-4 protocol [2], by the NSFNET Backbone Network Service. Mechanisms for exchange of route aggregates between the backbone service and regional/midlevel networks are specified. Additionally, the memo proposes the implementation of an Aggregate R...

RFC 1222 Advancing the NSFNET

In the first phase of the NSFNET Backbone, a 56Kbps infrastructure utilized routers based on Fuzzball software [2]. The Phase 1 Backbone used the Hello Protocol for interior routing. At the periphery of the Backbone, the client networks were typically connected by using a gatedaemon ("gated") interface to translate between the Backbone’s Hello Protocol and the interior gateway protocol (IGP) of...

The Internet is a complex mesh of networks that use a common suite (TCP/IP) of networking protocols. A key feature of the Internet is that all of these constituent networks are interconnected, thereby providing system wide communication. The magnitude and pattern of the ow of routing information directly represents the con-nectivity stability of the Internet. The NSFNET backbone network provide...

The NSFNET Simulation Platform

A simulation environment and associated tra c models for wide-area network performance analysis is introduced. The workload models reproduce temporal and spatial dependencies from a large backbone network. The methodology adopted enables the creation of arti cial traces whose statistical characteristics match those of the pro led networks in visual tests. The simulation environment provides a f...
